With the continuing problems of security and copyright theft, particularly on major new release motion pictures, distributors Lionsgate wanted to select a company that would not only handle the complete distribution of all their films and associated marketing materials but could also guarantee security and safety of their film reels and digital hard drives.

Our solution

We put in place a dedicated account team to liaise with Lionsgate to plan their campaigns, negotiate display sites with cinemas, deliver and install display materials and handle all aspects of film delivery.

This involves receiving film reels from the laboratories (in split deliveries for security reasons) and collating the reels into matched, numbered sets. We splice in certificates as required and then distribute films to the cinemas, recording all film movements by barcode tracking into our MPDo computer system.

Some important premiere and pre-release films, known as 'secure sends', are sent out with a false title or under a security code. To ensure absolute security, we even stay with the film whilst it's being shown and return it direct to MPD after the screening.

We also send out high profile blockbuster films on a 'Day & Date' Release. This means the film is released simultaneously around the world on the same day & date to minimise the possibility of piracy and to maximise marketing opportunities.

Through careful and conscientious management, we have ensured that Lionsgate films have been kept safe and secure throughout their lifetime, minimising piracy and copyright theft.
